ABOUT OCIFC
Established in 2023, Orange County International Fencers Club 501(c)(3) mission was formed to raise awareness of the sport and community of Fencing in Southern California and provide access to lessons and equipment to underserved areas. Our aim is to broaden the base of support for fencing in the United States, especially in Orange County, by actively developing and offering fencing-related community outreach, scholarship, and educational programs.

We strive to provide mentorship to youths and adults so that they improve teamwork, social skills, and social responsibility. Competition helps improve life skills such as goal setting, time management, work ethic, empathy, and negotiation. It helps improve physical health thus lowering amounts of stress, depression, and anxiety. Participating in athletic activities have shown to increase empowerment, personal responsibility, and self-control. Athletes learn education and occupational skills such as determination, perseverance, grit, resilience, critical thinking, and leadership.
The physical benefits of fencing include increased coordination, agility, balance, flexibility, strength, and cardiovascular endurance, offering a whole-body workout. Fencing is an aerobic form of exercise, so it supports heart health by increasing oxygen in the blood and releasing endorphins that lead to a positive sense of health. The extra oxygen released in the blood improves circulation, boosts the immune system, and enhances the body's ability to rid itself of toxins. The art of fencing involves quick responsive movements which requires your body and mind to remain alert. You can benefit from fencing by gaining greater mental agility because it requires strategic tactics and logic behind every movement. Matches are won on split-second physical and psychological observations of an opponent's skills and fencing personality therefore it enhances analytical capabilities by emphasizing a cool and calculating manner before passion and improvisation.
Youth ages 6-18 from low-income homes quit sports because of the financial costs at six times the rate of kids from high-income homes. The financial strain due to the cost of travel, uniforms, equipment, and tournament fees is a major barrier to participation in athletic activities. Because of these challenges, many children may simply resort to playing video games or games on their electronic devices instead of participating in physical activities. The Nonprofit wants to encourage children to participate in fencing and will provide assistance with the fees on a sliding scale basis or for FREE if needed.
We encourage participation in fencing by all athletes regardless of gender, disability, age and ability level, and ethnic, cultural and socio-economic background.
The Nonprofit will instruct, encourage, and educate the youth in participating in fencing as an outlet to
1. Combat depression, anxiety, and juvenile delinquency
2. Improve physical and mental well-being
3. Facilitate problem-solving and teamwork skills through sportsmanship to build character.
The Nonprofit's Board will conduct 100 percent of the activities, whether it's conducting sports activities, educating about healthy living and participating in sports, or donating to existing 501(c)(3) organizations that carry out these same activities. Our goal is to also partnership with schools and afterschool programs to introduce the sport of fencing.
The Nonprofit will be funded by donations from individuals, corporate entities, private foundations, other charities, and government grants.
